my bio

My early corporate photography was black and white, but when I began experimenting with overpainting photographs, it was all about color, moving from a more literal image to one that I hope generates a more emotional response from the viewer.

I began exhibiting in northern Ohio in 2002, continuing until I moved full-time to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in 2005. Without realizing it, my color palette shifted from teals and blues to warmer tones. In part, this simply reflects the colors of Mexico, but I think it goes beyond that to picking up on the social and open experience of living here, as contrasted with a more aloof and reserved atmosphere in a northern city.

I began exploring encaustics in 2009. The light here in San Miguel has a special quality that I'm attempting to capture in my encaustics - a medium that has that same luminous quality.
